sweet & savoury popcorn party mix

Popcorn is definitely our favourite food group. Popcorn is a food group right? If it’s not, it should be. A few months ago we gave you six of our favourite popcorn seasonings. While we still love those, we thought it was about time to up our popcorn game a bit.

Whenever you go to the movies you always see those commercials where they tell you to put chocolate in your popcorn right? We do, and we have always been intrigued. So we decided to do our own version of add-ins, both sweet and savoury to conquer all your cravings.

It’s cold out there now, so we understand that maybe you just want to curl up on your couch and watch movies all night. It’s all we want to do too. It’s the perfect snack for those nights in where you binge watch Stranger Things or Glow (No we are totally not doing this as we write this blog post).

Savoury Popcorn Party Mix
Course: Snack
Cuisine: Party, Popcorn
Servings: 4 cups
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil divided
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1/3 cup vegan bacon bits
  • 1 cup vegan cheeze crackers
  • 1 cup pretzels
  • 3/4 cup shreddies
Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of the oil in a deep pot and allow that to melt on medium heat. Add one kernel in and allow that to pop. Once popped add the rest of the kernels and shake until all the kernels are popped. Or until there are long pauses between popping.
  2. Add your popcorn to a large bowl and set aside.
  3. Melt your remaining coconut oil and mix with the liquid smoke. Toss your popcorn in the oil mixture. Now is the time to add more liquid smoke if the taste is not to your liking.
  4. Cook up your vegan bacon, if it needs to be cooked and cut into bacon bit sized.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients, including the vegan bacon, to your popcorn and toss until mixed together.
